INSPIRATION
People in Costa Rica have historically lived a “relaxed” life and fully embrace the mindset to take it easy. In fact they have a specific word for it - “Pura Vida”; to live a pure life and basically . . . to chill out!
“Being laid back is embedded in our culture,
not long ago most Costa Ricans worked in
agriculture, we lived a relaxed life.”
Christian Vargo, 30

Design Opportunity
People are often stressed in their daily lives, due to ever growing obligations and to-do lists. This causes people to become slaves to unnaturally structured routine & time schedules.
We want to address this by asking the question : “How might we re-imagine time by mimicking nature’s clock to reduce stress and align ourselves more naturally?”
Choosing a coconut for our clock was important to us, as it was a natural material and represented the “Pura Vida” Costa Rican mindset!🥥
What is KoKolock?
Kokolock re-imagines time to mimic nature’s clock, and help reduce stress by realigning people to live more natural, healthier, and happier lives. The design team experimented with using live weather from an API to reflect the amount of visibility outside which would be reflected on a 6-neopixel ring, to alert a person if the weather outside is good for enjoying the day, or if they should stay inside instead, simulating a rhythm that is more relaxed and in tune with nature.
The coconuts for this project were locally sourced
Testing different light intensities according to the sunlight outside (connected to live weather API)
Bright outside! Go enjoy the sun 🌞🌞🌞
Getting darker, time for your body to rest!🧘🏻♀️
